Many of the resources we have in this life are finite. In fact, I would say that most of them are finite. The illusion of an unending supply is one that most people feel when they are younger, but as we age we become more aware of the reality of the situation.

This awareness means that we are learning, hopefully. The two greatest resources that people list are finances and time. Let us throw knowledge in this mix as well. There are plenty of other "assets", but for today these will be the focus.

How we utilize there resources depends greatly on what we view as success. If you value monetary advancement using your finances, knowledge, and time in order to build a future then you focus in on how to capitalize you investments to maximize your dollars. Some investments take years to pay dividends, and some pay off rather quickly. With the experience, knowledge, and some time, the investments begin to be more consistent and profitable.

If you value knowledge, you will invest your time into learning, using your finances to gain better resources and improve the level of education. Some people spend a lifetime as learners, striving to gain understanding, and eventually becoming an expert in their given field.

The real question is how we use our finances, and knowledge beyond ourselves. Time is the equalizer. Eventually we all run out of time. What if I told you that our best resource is the next generation?

Investments in finances and knowledge are great, but if we fail to pass along what we have gained to the next generation we will have missed our greatest calling. I don't mean that we need to leave a huge inheritance to everyone. What I mean is that we need to invest in the next generation by helping to transfer the wisdom and knowledge we have acquired.

Titus 2 is one of my favorite chapters in the entire Bible, as it speaks of an intergenerational church, where we learn about the duties of the younger and older. The older generation is to live a godly life, setting the example for the next generation, teaching them to walk in Christ's ways. We are to pass along what we have learned.

This is why time is the greatest, and most limited resource we have. How we use the time is of the utmost importance. If we fail to pass along what we have learned, then our knowledge was not wisdom, it was folly.

Who are you investing in today? How are you using the time you have been given?
